Berkeley County Schools

Educational Excellence for All

Attendance Policy effective August, 2010

The Law States: When a student has missed five total unexcused absences, a legal notice will be served to the parent, guardian or custodian of the student.  The parent, guardian or custodian will be required to contact the school to discuss and correct the circumstances for the unexcused absences. Continued unexcused absences from school can result in court action. It is important for parents, guardians and custodians to remember that their child needs to have a written note to excuse an absence for reasons listed in the student handbook under excused absences.  This note must be received by the school within 48 hours of the absence.
