Mrs. Melanie Cox

Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Melanie Cox

Education: I am a graduate of Martinsburg High School (yes I am getting used to wearing blue and gold). I graduated from Shepherd College in 2002 with my degree in Elementary Education. I earned my National Board Certification for Reading in 2008.

Family: I am married and have 2 fabulous children. We have a busy schedule of soccer and dance no matter what the season. I am also a mom to 2 furry friends named Mickey and Montana.

What do I like to do outside of school? I love running. It is a great way to clear my thoughts after a busy day of teaching little guys. I am a Pinterest junkie! My husband says if the internet went down, we wouldn't be able to eat. I also love reading and spending time with my family.

My favorite thing about teaching is my students. I love finding something in each of them that I love. They are all so very different. I try my best to make a personal connection with each of them every day.

My goal as a teacher is to make learning fun. I try my best to make an activity where students forget there is a standard attached to it.

My favorite subject to teach is reading. There is nothing like seeing a child who finally enjoys a good book and is doing it all on their own. I also love using poetry and songs to make learning fun.

My favorite book is The Secret Life of Bees. .
My favorite children's book is Yertle the Turtle. (This is really hard to choose.)

If I could go back in time I would go to the 1930's-40's. I would love to get all dressed up and go swing dancing!
