Dr. Jeannine A. Sturm

Dr. Sturm has been teaching in Berkeley County since 2013. She is a 2012 graduate of The University of Arizona earning a Ph.D. in Music Education with a minor in Orchestral Conducting. She holds degrees from Stony Brook University (Advanced Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Administration, 2013), Hofstra University (MSEd in Music Education, 2007, with honors), Long Island University, C.W. Post (MS in Music History & Literature, 2005) and Adelphi University (Music, 2003, cum laude). While in Arizona, Dr. Sturm served as the director of the UA String Project, a musical outreach program for local Tucson children ages 3-14.

 
Dr. Sturm is an upper string specialist (violin and viola) and has taught strings in several school districts across Long Island, New York and in Tucson, Arizona. She is published in the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education and the national journal for the American String Teachers Association. Dr. Sturm's research interest is the history of string education in the United States.

 

As a performer, Dr. Sturm has served as principal viola in the Hofstra Opera Orchestra and Hofstra Symphony Orchestra as well as co-principal viola of the CW Post Symphony Orchestra. She has also sat as principal 2nd violin of the CW Post Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Sturm has participated in several master classes with the Shanghai String Quartet and members of the NY Philharmonic. 

 

When she is not teaching, Dr. Sturm enjoys hiking, reading, biking, cooking, visiting museums (especially Civil War Battlefields!), and golfing. She also on staff at Spring Mills Middle School and Spring Mills High School.
