WV College & Career Readiness Standards
West Virginia College and Career Readiness Standards are the roadmap for our student's journey toward college and the competitive, global workforce. These standards are a set of West Virginia developed high expectations that educators use to help students achieve graduation and become successful in school, work and life. These are the goals that will direct students to read and think critically, process information, draw logical conclusions, and become effective communicators, both verbally and in writing.
These standards are consistent goals held for all West Virginia students and include what students should know and understand at each grade level. The West Virginia College and Career Readiness Standards increase in complexity and rigor as the student progresses through grade levels. The standards are not a curriculum, as is so often believed. Teachers determine the exact paths (or the curriculum) that are taken to meet the goals and exactly how the standards should be taught in their classrooms.
Our West Virginia College and Career Readiness Standards serve as an all-important roadmap for our students, teachers, administrators and parents. They establish a direction and an endpoint for the journey. Our valued teachers determine the pathways taken to reach these goals, depending on the specific needs of their students. The ultimate destination of the journey is to graduate students who are well-prepared for school, work and life.
