  • Alternate Pre-K Enrollment Options 2020-2021

    All families wishing to enroll their child for the 2020-2021 school year:

    Enrollment and Preference sheet components located online are now Fill Forms that can be competed and emailed. Physical and Dental forms must still be filled out by the health professionals and may be sent in to the Pre-K office at a later date. Shot records will be required prior to the start of school.

  • What is the Berkeley County Schools’ Pre-Kindergarten Program?

    The Berkeley County Schools’ Pre-K Program is designed to develop children's social and emotional growth by offering a range of experiences based on early learning standards. Pre-K offers a balance of activities, including active and quiet times, large and small group activities, center times, indoor and outdoor playtimes, and child-initiated and teacher-planned activities. Berkeley County Pre-K Programs use Creative Curriculum. Information about Creative Curriculum can be found on the Pre-K website.

  • Who can participate?

    To attend Berkeley County Schools’ Pre-K, children must be **four years old by June 30, 2020** for the 2020-2021 enrollment year and reside in Berkeley County. Children enrolled in participating child-care centers in Berkeley County who reside in another West Virginia County may participate if space is available.

     
    2020-2021 School Year and every year thereafter
    Pre-K students must be 4 years old by June 30

  • When will packets for enrollment be available?

    Packets for the 2020-2021 Pre-K School year are now available here and through the Pre-K office located at 3635 Winchester Avenue, Martinsburg.

    Enrollment begins in March each year.

    Appointment dates for March and April are available beginning in February, please call 304-267-3555.

  • What is the adult to student ratio?

    The classroom maximum is 20 children with a minimum of two (2) adults per class. Each classroom has at least one teacher and one teaching assistant. Classroom ratios may be lower for children with special needs.

  • How do families enroll?

    Call 304.267.3555 to schedule an enrollment appointment after February 18, 2020. Families will need to bring the following information to the appointment: child’s state issued birth certificate, social security card, current immunization records, income verification, physical form, dental form, and Pre-K packet which is located on the website. www.berkeleycountyschools.org/domain/7

  • Where are the Pre-K Programs?

    Berkeley County Schools’ Pre-K Programs are found in 69 classrooms throughout Berkeley County. Classrooms are located in 33 sites including Berkeley County Schools, Head Start classrooms, and in collaborative partner programs. Students will be placed in a program and parents will be notified prior to August 7th.

  • What does it cost?

    Berkeley County Schools’ Pre-K Program is provided at no cost to families. Breakfast and lunch are served during a school day. Breakfast and lunch charges may apply if the student does not qualify for free or reduced meals. Children enrolled in a school may pack their breakfast or lunch. Children enrolled in childcare centers must follow the guidelines set forth by the center.

  • What about transportation?

    Families provide transportation to childcare collaboration sites and school sites. Transportation is sometimes provided through Head Start partnerships and is provided for students who qualify for Pre-K specialized services.

  • What are the program hours?

    Pre-K runs six (6) hours per day. Berkeley County Schools’ Pre-K follows a calendar similar to the Berkeley County Schools’ calendar, however Pre-K will have professional development every other Monday with no student attendance, but programs will be offered for family engagement on those days. A calendar of days attending and days not attending will be available to families in August 2020.
