• Discipline Program

Eagle School Intermediate will be implementing PBIS for the upcoming school year. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support and promotes positive reinforcement for correct behavior, teaching of the expected behaviors, and a positive, proactive approach to dealing with problematic behaviors. Through this program, expectations will be clearly relayed to students and parents through handouts and reteaching will occur when needed throughout the school year.  We are committed to developing a school community and overall culture that emphasizes prevention and instruction when it comes to dealing with behavioral concerns.

Eagle School Intermediate will have the following motto:

     AIR High Five                                                         7 habits

We expect students to be respectful and responsible at all times.  In addition, chewing gum and toys are not permitted.  The students will be taught these rules in all school settings.  Teachers will teach and model appropriate school behavior throughout the year.  The staff will reinforce positive behaviors by giving students “Star Cards” who consistently display appropriate behaviors and conduct.  Students will be entered into an incentive raffle with each “Star Card” they receive for various trinkets and prizes.

Students will receive positive and negative vibes in Class Dojo throughout the school day.  You can check this directly on your child's iPad. If the child continues to receive negative vibes, the student will receive reteaching time and even possibly a “Thumbs Down Error Report” form will be sent home.

Upon completion of the “Thumbs Down Error Report” form, teachers will staple the form into student planners for required parent signatures. If a student receives 3 or more forms in one semester, he or she will be sent to the office.

*Extreme behaviors will be handled immediately.  Extreme behaviors include fighting (harmful physical contact), blatant insubordination directed toward a staff member, weapons violation, or threats of violence.   (All disciplinary actions are at the discretion of the school administration.)

Reward Events: A reward event will be held for those students having no “Thumbs Down Error Report” forms during the nine weeks period.  Possible reward events include a sock hop, moon bounces, movies, extra recess time, kick ball tournaments, etc.

    Discipline Plan

1st Offense: Discipline/Thumbs Down Error Report issued and sent to the parent.

If the report is not returned to school the next day, parental contact should

                         be made.

2nd Offense: Discipline/Thumbs Down Error Report issued and sent to the parent.

If the report is not returned to school the next day, parental contact should

                         be made.

3rd Offense: Discipline/Thumbs Down Error Report issued and sent to

the parent. Teacher makes contact with parent by phone. A letter home, with the

Thumbs Down Error Reports, should be sent home if contact was

                         not made with the parent.

4th Offense: Discipline/Thumbs Down Error Report issued and sent to the

                         parent.  Administrative involvement begins.

    • A face-to-face parent meeting with school administration required.
    • Student must attend a required 30 minute after school counseling session.
    • Student begins a mandatory 3-week All-Star Probationary period during which if no Discipline/Thumbs Down Error Reports are issued, the student begins the entire process over at the beginning.
    • If a Discipline/Thumbs Down Error Report is issued during the All-Star Probationary period, the student must attend a one-hour session of after school counseling. The parent must attend the last half of this counseling session, or the student will receive an in/out-of-school suspension.

*This entire system will begin again at the start of the second

semester for all students except those on All-Star Probation.

All Discipline/Thumbs Down Error Reports will have appropriate consequences assigned by the issuer. Parents are required to sign the Discipline/Thumbs Down Error Report and return a copy to the school. These notices ensure that parents are informed immediately of school behavior problems. Counseling is provided to assist the student in making positive behavior choices.
