    HES Counseling Mission Statement

     
     Our goal is for all students to benefit from a school counseling program that is comprehensive in scope, preventative in design, and developmental in nature.  We will strive to ensure that all counseling programs and interventions help to foster the academic, career and personal/social development of every student at Hedgesville Elementary.

    Guidance Programs
     
     
    -Student of the Week:   Students are featured on a  bulletin board.
     
    - Character Education:   Good character winners receive a free Chick-Fil-A meal.

    -Reading Buddies:  Monthly winners receive a book and a special reading buddy.

    -Career Day-  We organize a career day each spring for our school.
     
    - We assist in coordinating the Student Responsibility Program.

     When can a student see the School Counselor?
     
    -During Classroom Developmental Guidance lessons every third week
     
    -For individual meetings
     
    -For small group sessions
     
    -When referred by a teacher, principal, or other school staff member
     
    -When a parent/guardian requests
     
    -When the School Counselor invites a student to lunch

     Small Group Counseling 
     
    -Banana Splits:  Children dealing with divorce/separation 
     
    -COA:  Children dealing with family drug/alcohol abuse situations
     
    -COI:  Children with incarcerated parents
     
    -Anger Management Skills
     
    - Student Success Groups
     
    *Additional groups/topics by grade level and topic as needed.
