MARTINSBURG HIGH SCHOOL CLUBS
ACE Team Yvonne Lantz
ACE stands for "Academic Competition for Excellence." This is an academic competition, quiz bowl style, between the high schools of Berkeley County. All matches are held at James Rumsey Institute. The season begins in January and ends in April. Membership on the Martinsburg team is by invitation only. Recommendations generally come from teachers. A test and try out competition determines who actually make the team.
Anime Club Erin Munley
We are an organization that meets once a week to watch and discuss Anime. Anyone who is interested is welcome to come.
Art Club Jamie Purdy
We are a creative organization that works with the community and organizations at school by completing various art-related projects. Activities include completing murals at Berkeley Heights, a sign for MHS Baseball, and painting a backdrop for Rosemont Elementary reading night. We also create decorations for Harlem Nights, and help decorate for prom.
Board Game Club Yvonne Lantz
This club is open to any student and meets every Tuesday from 2:45-4:30. They play a variety of board games.
Book Club Emma Weber
The book club will feature books chose by the group members to read each month. They have snacks and discussions about the books. They meet every Wednesday from 2:45-3:45 in room 2073.
Buddies Club Justin Slonaker
With this club, we are attempting to bridge the social gap between Special education and General education students. We have social activities both in and out of the school environment where both of these goups students can form relationships that will be beneficial to all involved.
Dance Team Alexis Maye
Dance is a means of communication and self-expression different from the written or spoken word. Students will make connections between dance, fitness, and healthful living. Team members will also develop skills in choreography, critical and creative thinking and communication.
Debate Club Robin Stas
Students debate on topics of their choosing either in groups or as individuals.
DECA Kimberlee Steckman
DECA is a marketing leadership organization that prepares students for careers in the business world. In DECA, students can participate in local service projects as well as professional conferences and competitions.
Drill Team Lt. Col. James Guinan
An JROTC group that competes in armed and unarmed regulation and exhibition events as well as marching/demonstrating in parades.
Ecology Club Renee Haines
Focus on the impact humans have on the environment and their interactions with other organisms. Projects include: recycling, river bank clean ups, water quality analysis, and more!
FCA Hartley Lushbaugh
The mission for this club is to encourage athletes to grow in their faith and sport. They meet on Friday mornings at 7:00 in the auditorium and everyone is welcome.
FFA Adam Cook
Future Farmers of America (FFA) is a national youth organization in agriculture. You must be in or have completed an agricultural class to participate. The MHS FFA chapter meets once a month at MHS and attends regional meetings throughout the year. FFA activities include: attending the state convention, participating in parades, making apple butter every year. They also participate in activities such as adopt-a-highway and tree planting. These activities provide members an opportunity to meet new people and experience new things.
Group Staff Lt. Col. James Guinan
Group Staff is like a student council for JROTC. It is comprised of cadet officers who help develop unit policy, plan activities, and coordinate fundraising and community services.
Health Science Technology Academy (HSTA) Jodi Kissner
Selected students from middle school design and conduct scientific research projects for their four years of high school. They attend an annual symposium in Morgantown and at the completion earn tuition waiver to any WV state colleges and universities.
Key Club Jay Fields
The Key Club is a student-led organization whose goal is to teach leadership through serving others.
Math Field Day Team Dave Destefano
Math Field Day is a competition between students in grades 10-12 collectively (as well as individual grades 4-9). Students from our school participate in local, county, regional, and state levels, with the top students in each competition advancing to the next level. Students who place in the top 15 in the state go on to ARML (the Atlantic Region Math League) competition. Although the mathematics in the competitions do not go beyond precalculus, the problems get more and more rigorous the further students advance. MHS has a long standing tradition of being represented every year at nearly every level of competition! We meet Wednesday afternoons from 2:45 until 3:30pm in room 2103 with Mr. DeStefano. Come test your mathematics skills against the best in the school, county, state and beyond.
Multicultural Club Celeste Brown
Providing education and engagement for the different cultures at MHS in a safe environment where all are welcome.
Orange and Black Record Rhonda Foreman
This is a school newspaper class that is open to 10-12th grade students who enjoy writing and learning about the journalism field.
Outdoor Club Britt Sherman
Outdoor Club works to provide students avenues to gain information on outdoor activities in the community and our state. It provides tools to take advantage of these resources by collaboration with other students and staff that explore these activities.
Ping Pong Club Renee Haines
The Ping-Pong club meets every Tuesday from 3:00-4:00. Students learn basic skills. Tournaments will be established in the future.
Robotics Jim Arndt
This club builds and programs a robot to compete in the First Tech Challenge. They also provide both school and public outreach to further interest in robotics.
Rotary Interact Elaine Comer
Rotary Interact Club is a service club sponsored by Martinsburg Sunrise Rotary Club, which provides support and guidance. Students in grades 9-12 can become members. The club is focused on providing school, community and international service. Members meet each Monday morning at 7:00am in room 1039.
Science Club Jim Arndt
This is a school club open to all students interested in the STEM fields. It works directly with Science National Honor Society (SNHS) to complete science related service projects and participate in the sub-clubs of SNHS.
Strike Out Cancer Yvonne Lantz
This committee was first organized this year, 2012. The committee works to plan and carry out activities for the MHS Strike Out Cancer fund raiser week. Activities include organizing the annual Male Volleyball Tournament, collecting donations during homeroom and at lunch and any other activity the committee plans.
Student Council Rhonda Foreman and Melissa Elliott
Students are elected by their peers to represent their grade level classes on issues concerning the school. The goal of Student Council is to promote student learning and an atmosphere of participation, responsibility, and ownership among students, parents, and staff members.
Student Rights Campaign Dave Ryan
There is also the Student's Rights Campaign. SRC helps insure the equal and fair treatment of all students regardless of nationality, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation and/or economic status. This club meets during C Lunch on Fridays.
Studio Art Elaine Comer
Every Tuesday afternoon, from 3:00-4:30, the art studio is opened for students to work on, get additional instruction for or critiques for art.
Thespian Society Dave Ryan
The International Thespian Society has been honoring excellence in the work of theatre students since 1929. Thespian troupes serve students in grades nine through twelve, and Junior Thespian troupes serve students in grades six through eight. There are at present active ITS troupes in more than 3,900 high schools and middle schools, mostly in the United States and Canada. The Society recently inducted its two millionth Thespian. Each troupe is led by a troupe director who is a professional member of the Educational Theatre Association. The troupe director is typically—but not always—the theatre teacher in the school. Students earn an invitation to Thespian Society membership on the basis of their achievements in the school’s theatre program.
Traveling Science Show Renee Haines
Students prepare interactive science experiences for elementary, intermediate, and middle school students throughout the county. The goal is to increase student interest and excitement in science education.
We Dine Together Club Elaine Comer
This is a student led club that focuses on changing the school culture by befriending fellow students in the lunchroom. The club meet twice a month on Wednesdays during all three lunches. Scheduled meetings include:

Youth Leadership Association Ryan Michael
YLA is a community service oriented club that is part of the Ohio-West Virginia YMCA organization. As part of the club, Model United Nations, Youth in Government, and Leadership Training at Fall Conference are offered for students to attend.
