Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Orren Bethel

I am a native of the great state of Ohio, born in the city of Chillicothe. I am a graduate of Ohio University, where I marched in the Ohio University Marching 110. I remain to this day a proud bobcat.

I began my teaching career at Hedgesville in 1987, and am now in my 29th year. I have always had a passion for history, particular the history of our nation. I am a firm believer that history is a story, and so the best way to teach it is in the form of story-telling. If you can make the story personal, to peer into the minds of those who made history, it makes the experience much more enjoyable, and memorable, to the student. And so, as long as I am able, I will be found in room 26, telling stories to those who come to me to hear them.

My hobbies include reading and music. I play trumpet in the Martinsburg Jazz Orchestra, and sing lead in the Blue-Grey Barbershop Chorus. I have performed at venues in Austria, Germany, as well as the White House.
