40 Developmental Assets for Adolescents

  • As part of our SMS Guidance Program, and in coordination with RESA 8, we are exploring and talking about the 40 Developmental Assets for Adolescents provided by the Search Institute. These assets are to develop and explore how we can better encourage and invite student development to become a healthy, caring and responsible adult!
    SUPPPORT:
    Show courtesy to a family member in public and at home
    Vow to say one encouraging thing to someone each day
    EMPOWERMENT:
    Encourage teenagers to take leadership roles in their community
    Talk about being safe wherever they go
    BOUNDARIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
    Treat all people, regardless of age, with respect
    When setting boundaries for someone else, explain the values behind them
    CONSTRUCTIVE USE OF TIME:
    Encourage teens to be involved in atleast one volunteer activity that makes a difference in the community
    Involve teens in decisions about family spiritual activities
    COMMITMENT TO LEARNING:
    Ask a young person to teach you a new skill
    Belive that all young folks can learn
    POSITIVE VALUES:
    Remember that mistakes are a part of living and growing up
    Be responsibile for all of your thoughts words and actions
