Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Nancy Smith
Greetings from Kindergarten! I am Nancy Smith, and I am proud to be teaching at Opequon Elementary! For me (and for Mrs. Courtney, my teaching assistant), Kindergarten is the best! I have been teaching kindergarten since 2000, (all that time at Opequon). Before kindergarten, I taught one year of first grade (97-98), and one year of second grade (98-99). When kindergarten went "all day", that was my first year in "K".
Before becoming a teacher, I earned a degree in bio-chemistry (Medical Technology) and worked at City Hospital for 10 year, in the Lab.
After 10 years, I had the opportunity to become a substitute teacher, and for 3 years I worked in all settings (regular education, special education, "specials" classrooms, elementary, middle and high school) and many of the schools across Berkeley County. I fell in love with teaching - I knew I had found my purpose!
I went back to school (Shepherd College), earned by teaching degree, was hired to work at Opequon, and found my place in the universe.
I am so lucky to teach at the best school in the best place, in the world.
