Counseling Program Website
Welcome to the school counseling webpage for Inwood Primary School! The school counseling profession has
changed greatly in the last 15 years and counselors are now responsible for establishing a comprehensive guidance
program for their schools which supports student development in three domains: academic, personal/social, and
career. As the school counselor, I am able to support student development through individual counseling, group
counseling, classroom guidance sessions, consultation, and coordination services. Please watch for the
“Counselors Corner” in the monthly newsletter for current happenings within the counseling department.
The Inwood primary School counseling program will enable students to become life-long learners, build skills in
problem-solving and decision making, learn to work independently and with others, and develop the positive
character traits necessary to become well-adjusted and productive members of society.
I am available to meet one-on-one with students to assist them with day-to-day issues they may face.
The students will develop coping skills, set goals, and problem-solve. At times, peer conflicts may be
mediated in the counselor’s office. Students will gain the tools necessary to communicate more
effectively and achieve goals.
Group counseling sessions will be offered throughout the school year and are based on the students’
needs. They may include such topics as friendship skills, coping with divorce, grief, study skills,
organization, etc. Parents are notified of upcoming groups and permission is required.
Classroom Guidance is a planned, developmental program in which the counselor meets weekly with each
class to provide instruction in the areas of academic, personal/social, and career development. Topics
covered may include positive character traits, bullying, problem-solving, conflict resolution, friendship
skills, as well as behaviors and attitudes necessary for school success and life success.
I am available to meet with parents, teachers, administrators, school psychologists, medical
professionals, and community agency personnel to plan and implement strategies to help students be
The counselor often serves as the liaison between the school and community agencies whose services may
meet the needs of certain families. I am actively involved in organizing, managing, and evaluating the
needs of students and their families. Often, the school counselor is also responsible for coordination of
other school-wide initiatives and programs.

My goal is to make certain that students understand they can come and see me without fear that I will share
sensitive information with others. As a counselor, I adhere to strict ethical standards regarding confidentiality.
However, when an individual is at risk of harm (either the student I am counseling or someone else), I will break
confidentiality to avert the situation. This occurs rarely but will be important for student and parents to
I cannot support your student’s success if they are not at school! Please make sure your student attends classes
regularly. Attendance is absolutely critical for student learning. Absences impede students’ progress and can also
have serious consequences for students and their parents. Please take the time to visit the Attendance Website
