Continuing education can include earning an advanced degree or completing individual courses. It may also include professional development workshops or workplace training.
Continuing education matters for teachers because student needs and teaching challenges change as the surrounding culture changes. To help you stay current on best practices, and continually improve teaching and learning through new ideas, applications, and strategies, review the course and program offerings included here.
Berkeley County Schools Board of Governors Cohort

Berkeley County Schools and Blue Ridge Community & Technical College have partnered to offer BCS service personnel a unique opportunity to earn the Board of Governor's Associate Degree beginning in August 2022. BCS employees who complete a cohort degree receive salary upgrades!
For every 12 credit hours completed, BCS employees receive a $110 annual supplement. Associate Degree graduates receive an additional $400 annual supplement. If you have questions about salary upgrades, contact Karen Hensell in the BCS Human Resources Office at khensell@k12.wv.us.

What type of program is this?
This is an opportunity to earn a two-year associate degree. This is an online program with– virtual instruction and support.

What is the cost?
The cost is minimal. BCS has partnered with Blue Ridge Community and Technical College to provide NO COST TUITION OR FEES and low-cost books. Blue Ridge is actively seeking ways to provide the books for free.

How long is the program?
The program is two years, and two classes per semester for four semesters. All classes are online.

I have college credit and Work 199 credits do they count?
Each student will be assessed to see where they are. If there are courses that you have taken and we can use in place of a degree requirement, yes, they will be applied. Each student is different.

Can I use work experience?
Yes, one of the first courses you take, beginning in August, is a course to assess your prior and current work experience.
