This is my first year at Mountain Ridge and my 13th? 15? year teaching. As an elementary student I struggled in school. Science and social studies came naturally to me. Over time I grew to enjoy math and and writing too. The old pocket sized illustrated classics books were my favorites as a kid. Hiking, collecting fossils, and cheering at my son's cross country runs and lacrosse games are my primary interests.
Teaching is a second career for me. I started out after Mary Washington College as a newspaper reporter. Later, I realized the wisdom of one of my high school teachers and returned to school to become a teacher. Mary Washington, Longwood, Radford, and Shenandoah Unversities were great places to learn. The Appalachain Trail Conservancy and Maine Audubon taught me to use nature in the classroom. What I want my students to grow to understand is that learning takes a lifetime.
If you ever need to contact me, the best way is to call me or e-mail me here at school. I check my messages and e-mail at lunch and at the end of the day.
