BCS Closed March 2

  • Berkeley County Schools will remain closed through Friday, March 2, 2018.  Lack of progress by the WV Senate in addressing the compensation bill passed by the House on Wednesday evening leaves school employees waiting and watching for a resolution.  Our school system can not function without sufficient staff.  Filling classrooms and support positions with substitutes is not an answer, nor is it even possible.

Information provided from Dr. Steve Paine, State Superintendent of Schools, and the Office of theGovernor will be forwarded to you as received and posted to the Teacher Compensation & Resolution area of our website. This information should be considered the most accurate as it relates to public education and the work stoppage.

Additional instructional resources have been added to our website to engage your student during their time out of the classroom. Go to www.berkeleycountyschools.org, and look for the  Digital Resourcesbutton in the center of the page.

School activities, practices, and community events held after 4pm will continue.  Please contact your principal, coach, or activity sponsor with any questions you may have regarding such activity.

Free lunches will be offered as previously announced at these locations from noon until 1 pm:  Bedington Elem., Burke Street, Hedgesville Elem., Inwood Primary School, Tuscarora Elem., Winchester Ave., and North Middle School.  Students/siblings receiving these meals must eat them on location.  Berkeley County Schools is an equal opportunity provider.

We understand the inconveniences this work stoppage presents to the family household, and the concern expressed for time out of the classroom.  Make your voices heard in Charleston as House Bill 4145 advances through the Senate Finance Committee.  A resolution to this stoppage, and returning to the classroom is the goal of this district, its administration, and its board members.

Berkeley County Schools values the support of our families, community, and our staff.   Be assured that the education of our students is our priority.
