It is with disappointment that we announce that Berkeley County Schools will be closed on Monday, March 5th, as the state-wide work stoppage continues.
Over the weekend, it was anticipated that the Senate would pass the 5% compensation increase for teachers, service personnel, and state police (HB 4145) previously approved by both the Governor and the House of Representatives. The 5% compensation was not endorsed by the Senate. This endorsement would have returned our students and staff to school on Monday.
Discussions and negotiations continue on the state level to bring resolution to this work stoppage. It is with this message that we appeal to our legislative leaders, to serve our students by returning them to the classroom and doing what is right for public education.
