High School Equivalency Diploma

The West Virginia Department of Education's approved High School Equivalency (HSE) assessment offers adults a "second opportunity" to prove acquisition of the contemporary high school skills and life skills. For the thousands of West Virginians who have not completed high school, the issuance of the State of West Virginia High School Equivalency Diploma provides them with the opportunity to demonstrate academic skills at a high school level of competency.

HSE Testing Information

Requirements for High School Equivalency testing:

  • Must be 17 or older unless an individual has a court order.

    • Students who are 17 years of age will need parent/guardian signature on required forms.

  • Must hold a government-issued unexpired photo ID.

  • Must be enrolled and complete all enrollment steps required by WV Adult Education.

  • Must pass an Official GED Ready Practice Test for each subject at an approved WV Adult Education Classroom.
