Robotic Team Advances to International Competition
South Middle School Vex IQ Robotics team is heading to Louisville, Kentucky for the VEX Robotics Competition World Championships from April 28th to April 30th. The Trojans earned a spot at the World Championship by winning the Excellence Award at the VEX IQ Middle School State Competition in Fairmont this past weekend. They competed with 19 middle school level teams from across the state in events that tested their robot skills on a playing field as well as their knowledge of robotics programming and the engineering process. The Excellence Award as described by VexRobotics as "The highest award presented in the VEX IQ Challenge. This award is presented to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in creating a high quality VEX robotics program. This team is a strong contender in numerous award categories."
The team is beyond excited for the chance to compete in the World Championship. They are looking forward to learning and working with the top teams from across the United States, Canada, China, and the rest of the VEX IQ World. They already have improvement ideas for their robot strategy and programming and are eager to get back to practicing. They are now looking for ways to raise funds for travel expenses and entry fee to the competition. The entry fee is $975 and each team member family and their coach will be traveling to Louisville for the three days of competition. We welcome sponsors to help us achieve this dream and chance to put Berkeley County West Virginia and Martinsburg South Middle School on the World Robotics Map!
