Attendance

Your child should be in attendance at school unless he/she is ill.  Student attendance is a major factor towards school success.  In the event that your child is ill and cannot attend school, a written note is required upon return to school.  If your child is absent, you may contact the school to make arrangements to pick up missed work.  Please allow ample time for the teacher to compile the necessary information.  Teachers are not required to provide make-up work until a child returns from the absence.

Excused absences include:  student illness, death in the family, hazardous conditions, and doctor's appointment with verification upon return.  Even though these are excused, they still count against the student for perfect attendance.

At Orchard View, students must arrive in the classroom prepared to start the day by 8:50 a.m.  Students arriving later than 8:50 a.m. will be marked tardy.

If a student arrives between 8:50 a.m. andd 10:05 a.m. but leaves before 2:05 p.m., it will count as a 1/2 day absence.  If a student leaves for the day between 2:05 p.m. and 3:10 p.m., it counts as an early leave.  A combination of 4 or more tardies, early leaves, or 1/2 day absences will disqualify a student from perfect attendance.  (For more information, please visit the Berkeley County Handbook Attendance Policy).
