Berkeley County Schools Launches BCS 101

(Martinsburg, WV)

This October, Berkeley County Schools will offer BCS 101, an introductory community ambassador program designed to educate and instruct attendees on such topics as curriculum and instruction, district operations, public school finance, technology implementation and other district administrative programs and services.

“We are excited to further connect with parents and our community through our

BCS 101 program,” said Berkeley County Schools Communications Director, Elaine Bobo.  “Selected participants will meet once a month for six months and engage in activities and discussions designed to broaden their understanding of our school system. Upon completion of the program, participants will have a greater knowledge of the daily operation of the second largest, and fast growing school district in West Virginia.   Graduates of BCS 101 will be well equipped to serve as ambassadors for Berkeley County Schools.”

Participants in the BCS 101 program will meet for sessions on October 15, November 19,

January 14, February 11, March 17, and April 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Each session will focus on selected topics such as the role of the School Board, facilities planning and development, instructional goals, staffing, school accountability, budgeting, student/family support services and school nutritional services. Graduates of this ambassador program will be recognized by the Berkeley County Schools Board of Education.

Bobo adds, “We recognize how valuable time is for parents, so we’re designing each BCS 101 session to be fast- paced and engaging.  Participants will be able to connect with a variety of school division leaders, and participate in active discussions. We are committed to making sure the time participants spend with us is valuable to them and time well spent.”

Individuals interested in participating in BCS 101 must submit the BCS 101 application by

4 p.m. on Friday, August 30th. Paper applications are available at the Berkeley County Schools Administrative office and from the office of all county schools. Additional information and the online application can be found on the school district’s website, www.berkeleycountyschools.org/BCS101.
