OLWEUS Kick-Off Week Success!

War Memorial Park was booming Thursday night for the annual OLWEUS Kick-Off Event as families, staff and community members came together to support the bullying prevention message and join in some fun.

Student groups from across the district performed for attendees, and there were plenty of activities, giveaways and food for kids and families to take part in. Several speakers also took the stage to emphasize the importance of the OLWEUS message, including Interim Superintendent Ron Stephens, Berkeley County Sheriff Nathan Harmon and Martinsburg Police Chief George Swartwood.

The event was one part of a larger OLWEUS Week throughout the district, during which schools promoted bullying prevention in fun and unique ways. Many schools focused on a different theme each day to tie into the larger message.

OLWEUS is a bullying prevention program that encourages reducing and preventing bullying behaviors among students, preventing the development of new bullying behaviors and improving peer relations at school. OLWEUS is currently implemented in the BCS intermediate and middle schools.
