Winners from Berkeley County Art program

MARTINSBURG — The Berkeley County Council PTA announced the county winners in the National PTA Reflections Art program at Spring Mills Primary on Thursday, March 28.

Since 1969, the National PTA Reflections program welcomes all grades and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts. Annually, thousands of students will reflect on a common theme and create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. All children deserve opportunities to explore and be involved in the arts.

This year’s theme was “I Am Hopeful Because…” and the entries from Berkeley County were outstanding. Each of the winning entries from every participating school were advanced to the Berkeley County and West Virginia State PTA Reflections contest. Janelle Sperry, Berkeley County Council PTA President, announced that seven winners from Berkeley County also placed at the state level and were invited to attend the West Virginia PTA Convention in Morgantown on April 13, 2024, to accept their state awards.

The county winners this year were: Literature (Primary Division) 1st Place – Landon Guthrie from Spring Mills Primary; 2nd Place — Mason Jamison from Spring Mills Primary; 3rd place – Ryleigh Sandy from Spring Mills Primary; 4th place – Caden Cox from Spring Mills Primary.

Dance Choreography (Primary Division) 1st Place – Rian Maye from Berkeley Heights Elementary.

Visual Arts (Primary Division) 1st Place – Layla Moreland from Bunker Hill Elementary; 2nd Place – Kyndall Porter from Berkeley Heights Elementary; 3rd Place – Kodi Jones from Berkeley Heights Elementary; 4th Place – Khloe Porter from Berkeley Heights Elementary; Honorable Mention – Jaydon Jackson from Bunker Hill Elementary; Honorable Mention – Aubrianna Smith from Bunker Hill Elementary; Honorable Mention – Elijah Washington from Berkeley Heights Elementary; and Honorable Mention – Kai Gipe from Bunker Hill Elementary.

The following students also received awards at the West Virginia PTA Reflections Awards program: Literature (Primary Division) 1st Place – Landon Guthrie from Spring Mills Primary; 2nd Place — Mason Jamison from Spring Mills Primary; 3rd place –Caden Cox from Spring Mills Primary; 4th place – Ryleigh Sandy from Spring Mills Primary.

Visual Arts (Primary Division) 2nd Place – Layla Moreland from Bunker Hill Elementary; 3rd Place – Kyndall Porter from Berkeley Heights Elementary.

Dance Choreography (Primary Division) 1st Place – Rian Maye from Berkeley Heights Elementary.

Landon Guthrie and Rian Maye’s first-place entries were advanced to the National PTA Reflections Contest. Next year’s theme is “Accepting Imperfection”.
