Goal 1: Academic Excellence

Students will perform at or above level or make more than one year's growth in Reading and Mathematics. BCS will eliminate opportunity gaps and recover learning through support school-wide scystems.

SMART Goal

Back Creek Valley Elementary K–2 students will meet or exceed their Stretch Growth in Reading and Mathematics as measured by the iReady Reading and Math Assessments. Student progress will be monitored after each diagnostic window, and instructional adjustments will be made to ensure all students achieve accelerated growth.

Strategy 1

Implement a structured, data-driven instructional and intervention framework focused on maximizing student growth in reading.

Action Steps

  1. Administer iReady diagnostics three times per year and conduct data review meetings within two weeks of each testing window.

  2. Provide targeted small-group instruction and intervention during designated instructional blocks based on individual student data.

  3. Provide enrichment opportunities for students exceeding growth targets to maintain accelerated progress.

Goal 2: Health and Well-Being

All Berkeley County Schools will create and maintain safe learning environments that promote excellent academic achievement. BCS will nurture all students’ intellectual, physical, mental, and social-emotional growth with specific emphasis on recovering from complex trauma.

SMART Goal

Back Creek Valley Elementary will create and maintain a safe learning environment that promotes excellent academic achievement. Staff will nurture all students’ intellectual, physical, mental, and social-emotional growth in healthy, safe, and supportive learning environments. Learning is optimized when students feel valued and when their social, emotional, physical, and academic needs are met.

Strategy 1

Back Creek Valley will promote a safe, supportive learning environment through strong family communication, proactive attendance monitoring, student engagement programs, and positive behavior supports.

Action Steps

  1. Communicate clear attendance expectations to families at the beginning of the school year and monitor student attendance weekly and identify students at risk for chronic absenteeism.

  2. Partner with Potomac Bank to implement student attendance incentive programs.

  3. Provide counselor-led guidance lessons focused on social-emotional learning and conflict resolution as well as reinforce positive behaviors.

Goal 3: Operational Excellence

Efficient and effective operations will allow BCS to maintain its focus on student learning.  BCS will strengthen and improve system-wide operations through federal, state and local financial resources to meet the needs of the district’s growing and changing community.

SMART Goal

By June 2026, 100% of classroom teachers will integrate technology into weekly instructional planning as evidenced by lesson plans, walkthrough data, and professional development participation. After School Extended Day funds will be utilized to provide additional academic and technology-based support opportunities for students and families throughout the 2025–2026 school year.

Strategy 1

Back Creek Valley Elementary, in partnership with Berkeley County Schools, will provide ongoing technology workshops and support sessions throughout the 2025–2026 school year. These sessions will focus on instructional technology integration, communication platforms, and digital engagement strategies.

Action Steps

  1. Technology training will be offered on major communication and instructional tools such as Seesaw and Schoology to ensure consistent implementation school-wide.

  2. Administration and the Computer Teacher will participate in county-level technology trainings to build internal capacity and provide ongoing classroom support.

  3. Through PTA involvement, family-focused technology training sessions will be offered to help parents effectively access communication platforms and support student learning at home.
