Welcome Toolkit

Dear Parents and Students,

The 2025 – 2026 school year will be filled with excitement and learning for all students. The staff at Bedington Elementary has prepared themselves to provide a high standard of daily instruction in all subject areas to maximize student learning and development.

Academic achievement and student success is a priority at Bedington Elementary. Students are supported and encouraged to meet a high standard of academic excellence as they learn valuable skills. Our students will participate in a variety of learning opportunities in and outside of the classroom to enhance the curriculum.

The staff at Bedington Elementary want to help each child shine in the classroom and we want to partner with parents throughout the school year to accomplish this important task. You can participate in your child’s education by overseeing homework, discussing graded class assignments and report cards with your child, and by attending school events and activities.

At the beginning of every month the Bedington Elementary Newsletter will be sent home to parents to communicate important information and dates of upcoming events at the school. All students will also have a folder to take home classwork for parents to see and for parents to send notes in to the teacher. Communication between home and school is essential.

Thank you in advance for your help in making the 2025 – 2026 school year a success for your child and for our school.

Sincerely,
Shane Shaffer, Principal

Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

Students are welcomed into the school beginning at 8:20 AM. Dismissal begins at 3:20 PM.

For the safety of our students, it is important that the following procedures be adhered to when dropping off and picking up students from school. Car rider vehicles should enter the drop off and pick up line at the gated entrance at the bottom of the hill (the far end of the playground). A staff member will receive students into the building at drop off and bring students out of the building at pick up. For student safety purposes the gates are closed at 8:50 AM. Students arriving after that time must be signed into the school at the office. The office is located on the left side of the building (while facing the front).

Emergency Cards

Please remember to fill this card out completely and update any changes throughout the school year.

Emergency School Closings

Weather and other unforeseen events may create the need to close schools during the school day. It is important that every family has a plan for children in the event of an early closing.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Two formal parent/teacher conferences will be scheduled each year. Learn more about your students school environment and schedule an appointment.

Parent Visitations / Volunteers

We encourage parents to visit our school and participate in our activities. Any visitor to the school must sign in at the office.

In an effort to protect important instructional time and follow the Berkeley County Schools Nutrition Policy, food items for student birthdays are prohibited.
