School Strategic Plan & SMART Goals

Goal 1: Academic Excellence

All students will perform at or above grade level or make more than one year's growth in reading and mathematics. BCS will eliminate opportunity gaps and recover learning through support school-wide systems.

SMART Goal

By the end of the 2025-2026 school year, Eagle School Intermediate will increase student proficiency in English Language Arts from 47% to 57% as measured by the WV General Summative Assessment.

Strategies

  • Implement high-quality Tier 1 instruction aligned to the West Virginia College and Career Readiness Standards.

  • Utilize formative assessment practices to guide instruction.

  • Provide targeted interventions for students identified through benchmark and diagnostic assessments.

  • Offer professional development focused on literacy strategies and data analysis.

Action Steps

  1. Conduct regular data team meetings to analyze student performance data and adjust instruction accordingly.

  2. Provide small group instruction based on student needs identified through benchmark assessments.

  3. Implement school-wide literacy initiatives to promote reading engagement.

  4. Monitor progress of identified students every six weeks.

Goal 2: Health and Well-Being

All Berkeley County Schools will create and maintain safe learning environments and promote excellent academic achievement. BCS will nurture all students' intellectual, physical, mental, and social-emotional growth with a specific emphasis on recovering from complex trauma in healthy, safe, and supportive learning environments.

SMART Goal

By the end of the 2025-2026 school year, Eagle School Intermediate will increase student proficiency in mathematics from 42% to 52% as measured by the WV General Summative Assessment.

Strategies

  • Strengthen Tier 1 math instruction aligned to state standards.

  • Incorporate problem-solving and mathematical reasoning into daily instruction.

  • Use benchmark data to inform targeted interventions.

  • Provide ongoing professional development in math instructional strategies.

Action Steps

  1. Schedule regular math data meetings to review benchmark and classroom assessment data.

  2. Provide differentiated small group instruction during WIN (What I Need) time.

  3. Implement math fact fluency practice school-wide.

  4. Monitor student growth using i-Ready and other diagnostic tools.

Goal 3: Operational Excellence

Efficient and effective operations will allow BCS to maintain its focus on student learning.  BCS will strengthen and improve system-wide operations through federal, state and local financial resources to meet the needs of the district’s growing and changing community.

SMART Goal

By the end of the 2025-2026 school year, Eagle School Intermediate will reduce chronic absenteeism from 28% to 20%.

Strategies

  • Strengthen communication with families regarding attendance expectations.

  • Implement positive attendance incentives.

  • Monitor attendance data regularly to identify at-risk students.

  • Collaborate with community agencies to support families with attendance barriers.

Action Steps

  1. Conduct monthly attendance reviews.

  2. Make parent contact within 24 hours of unexcused absences.

  3. Provide attendance recognition programs for students with improved attendance.

  4. Refer students with excessive absences to the SAT team for intervention.
