Assessment & Testing

Berkeley County Schools upholds the state requirements for both locally provided and West Virginia Measures of Academic Progress (WV-MAP) as outlined in Policy 2340. Annually, all applicable educators complete assessment training and sign off on the WVBE testing code of ethics ensuring that all schools and classrooms follow the required testing guidelines and maintain the security of assessment materials and student data.

West Virginia and Berkeley County Schools student assessment program is designed to measure the extent to which a student has learned and is able to apply the defined knowledge and skills at each tested grade or course level.

Grades 3 – 8 West Virginia General Summative Assessment and Schedule

The West Virginia General Summative Assessment (WVGSA) for students in grades 3-8 is an online summative test given towards the end of the school year to measure student performance on the state’s content standards, which provide clear, consistent guidelines for what students should know and be able to do at each grade level.

Grades 3-8; 11 West Virginia Alternative Summative Assessment and Schedule

The West Virginia Alternate Summative Assessment (WVASA) also known as the Dynamic Learning Maps Assessment (DLM) for students in grades 3-8; 11is an online summative test specifically designed for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. The test is given towards the end of the school year to measure student performance on the state’s Essential Content Standards which provide clear, consistent guidelines for what students should know and be able to do at each grade level.

High School Grade 11 General Summative Assessment - SAT School Day

The SAT School Day is the state’s general summative assessment for high school. It is administered on paper to all grade 11 students, except those who take the West Virginia Alternate Summative Assessment
