Goal 1: Academic Excellence
Students will perform at or above level or make more than one year's growth in Reading and Mathematics. BCS will eliminate opportunity gaps and recover learning through support school-wide systems.
SMART Goal
By the end of the 2026–2027 school year, 75% of students will perform at or above grade level in reading and mathematics or demonstrate at least 150% typical growth, as measured by i-Ready diagnostic and growth monitoring reports. Students will achieve 75% of their typical growth from BOY to MOY and an additional 75% from MOY to EOY. Through targeted instruction and intervention aligned with the Third Grade Success Act, the school will reduce opportunity gaps among identified student groups by 10%.
Strategy 1: Strengthen Core Instruction Through Data-Driven Practices
Teachers will use student assessment data to guide instruction and ensure students receive strong Tier 1 instruction in reading and mathematics.
Action Steps
Grade-level teams will meet regularly to review i-Ready diagnostic, lesson completion, and growth monitoring data to identify trends and adjust instruction.
Teachers will ensure students engage in a minimum of 40 minutes per week on individualized i-Ready pathways in reading and mathematics.
Teachers will monitor student completion of at least two i-Ready lessons per week with 80% or higher accuracy.
Administrators will conduct classroom walk-throughs focused on effective literacy and mathematics instruction and provide feedback aligned to schoolwide expectations.
Strategy 2: Implement Targeted Intervention and Progress Monitoring
The school will provide structured reading and math intervention for students who require additional support and closely monitor progress toward grade-level expectations.
Action Steps
Students identified through i-Ready diagnostic data and classroom assessments will participate in targeted small-group interventions during designated instructional blocks.
Intervention staff and classroom teachers will collaborate to monitor student progress and adjust instruction every 4–6 weeks.
Students in grades K–3 will receive additional foundational reading support aligned with requirements of the Third Grade Success Act.
School leadership will review intervention data regularly to determine effectiveness and make adjustments to instructional supports as needed.

All Berkeley County Schools will create and maintain safe learning environments that promote excellent academic achievement. BCS will nurture all students’ intellectual, physical, mental, and social-emotional growth with specific emphasis on recovering from complex trauma.

By the end of the 2026–2027 school year, Hedgesville Elementary School will strengthen a safe and supportive learning environment by implementing schoolwide practices that support students’ social-emotional, physical, and mental well-being. The school will increase positive student behavior indicators and reduce office discipline referrals by 10%, while ensuring 100% of classrooms implement consistent social-emotional learning and trauma-informed practices. Progress will be reviewed quarterly through behavior data, attendance data, and school climate indicators.
