Class of 2024 Information

Letter to Parents

Seniors and Senior Parents,

As we begin the second semester, we want to take the opportunity to discuss graduation and completion of all graduation requirements. Hopefully, all seniors will complete all graduation requirements by Friday, May 17th, 2024, and be able to participate in the graduation program without any issues. Berkeley County School policy does permit seniors who are one credit short of meeting graduation requirements to participate in the graduation ceremony as long as they work with their counselors on a plan to complete the required credit. We would like all graduating seniors to have satisfied all graduation requirements by June 7, 2024. To be certain that the date of graduation will appear on student transcripts and permanent records, Berkeley County Schools has developed the following procedure to recover credit by the above date.

  1. Students who are lacking one credit or less in meeting graduation requirements will have the following options:

  2. Students who are currently aware of the additional credit they will need to graduate should contact their school counselor and make arrangements to complete that credit in night school.

  3. Students who have failed a first semester course should contact their school counselor and make-up the credit in night school. Also, school counselors may be able to arrange time for the student to work on Grad Point during the regular school day.

  4. Students who fail a second semester course will be expected to report to school on Monday, May 20th, and complete the credit by taking the course using the Connexus Credit Recovery computer program. Students will be excused to participate in graduation activities with the exception of practice, but otherwise will be expected to be in school. Students will have until Friday, June 7th to complete the required work.

  5. Students who do not complete one of the programs described above will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony. Students who start to make the credit up and participate in the graduation ceremony, but do not complete the course by June 7, will have to complete the course over the summer before receiving their diploma and having the graduation date included on transcripts.

Please feel free to contact the school administration or counseling department if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Tana Burkhart, Assistant Superintendent

Holly Kleppner, Executive Director of Secondary Schools
