On Thursday, November 7th, North Middle School proudly held its annual Veterans Day Assembly, bringing together students, staff, and community members to honor the courageous men and women who have served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.

The ceremony began with powerful musical tributes from the NMS Band, Strings, and Choir, filling the gym with patriotic favorites such as “America the Beautiful” and the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Their performances helped set a respectful and celebratory tone for the morning.

Several members of the Student Council presented a moving reader’s theatre performance, highlighting the challenges and sacrifices service members face both during deployment and upon returning home. Their presentation encouraged students to reflect on the meaning of service, courage, and gratitude.

During the ceremony, we proudly recognized the veterans in attendance from our community as well as three of our own NMS staff members—Mr. Barclay, Mr. Bell, and Ms. Crowley—who have served our country in the military. We are grateful for their leadership, their stories, and their continued service to our school.

Following the assembly, visiting veterans were invited to speak with classes of students, sharing personal experiences and answering thoughtful questions. Students were engaged and eager to learn about military life, patriotism, and the importance of service.

The morning concluded with a special luncheon in the library, prepared and hosted by our Family & Consumer Science classes. This provided another opportunity for veterans to connect with students and staff while being honored for their service.

A huge thank-you goes to our dedicated music teachers, Ms. Long and Ms. Updike, whose hard work made the performances and the entire event possible. Special recognition goes to Ms. Updike for coordinating the assembly and ensuring every detail was meaningful.
