Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share that our school is continuing a School-Based Health (SBH) Program in partnership with Shenandoah Community Health. This program is designed to support the overall success of our students by integrating healthcare into the school setting—working alongside our school nurses, coaches, counselors, teachers, administrators, and community partners. The SBH program does not replace the services already provided by our school nurse or other supports. Instead, it enhances and extends those efforts to better meet the health needs of our students. The goal of the program is to identify health concerns early and help manage them so that they don’t interfere with your child’s learning, focus, and well-being.
Some key benefits of the SBH program include:
-Reducing missed class time and helping students return to learning more quickly
-Minimizing time parents have to take off work for health-related appointments
-Reducing unnecessary visits to urgent care or the emergency room
-Providing care regardless of insurance status or ability to pay
-Supporting chronic disease management and reducing absenteeism
-Ensuring that healthcare access is not a barrier to education
-Coordinating with your child’s primary care provider for seamless care
To participate in the program, a permission form must be completed. You can stop by the school nurse’s office to pick one up, or call Shenandoah Community Health directly at 304-263-4999 for more information about services and eligibility.
We’re thrilled to offer this resource to our students and families, and we believe it will make a meaningful difference in student health and school success. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our school nurse or administrative team.
