Goal 1: Academic Excellence

Students will perform at or above level or make more than one year's growth in Reading and Mathematics. BCS will eliminate opportunity gaps and recover learning through support school-wide systems.

SMART Goal

Hedgesville Middle School will increase the total number of students achieving proficiency on the summative assessment to 54.11% in ELA and 32.68% Mathematics, for the 2025-2026 school year, as measured by the 2026 WV General Summative Assessment.

All teachers will adhere to the Berkeley County Curriculum Maps, Pacing Guides, and county approved curriculum to ensure fidelity to core instruction.

Strategy 2

Students will complete 45 iReady minutes per week in both ELA and Math. The goal is 2 lessons at 80% proficiency in both ELA and Math.

Goal 2: Health and Well-Being

All Berkeley County Schools will create and maintain safe learning environments that promote excellent academic achievement. BCS will nurture all students’ intellectual, physical, mental, and social-emotional growth with specific emphasis on recovering from complex trauma.

SMART Goal

Increase overall health and well-being of students by increasing the percentage of students with no out-of-school suspensions within the school year by 4% from 89% to 93%.

Strategy 1

Faculty will teach students the school expectations and consequences. Faculty will use APL strategies to teach rules and expectations of HMS. Teams will implement a school and team discipline and reward system. School will implement Nest Notes positive behavior support system.

Strategy 2

The attendance rate of chronically absent, at-risk students at Hedgesville Middle School will increase 4% annually, resulting in a decrease in truancy.

Goal 3: Operational Excellence

Efficient and effective operations will allow BCS to maintain its focus on student learning.  BCS will strengthen and improve system-wide operations through federal, state and local financial resources to meet the needs of the district’s growing and changing community.

SMART Goal

Hedgesville Middle School will create an environment that is equitable and inclusive for all students and staff by completing walk-throughs to measure the level in which the learning environment is physically and culturally inviting.

Strategy 1

Hedgesville Middle School will increase the percentage of students with greater than or equal to 90% attendance by 4%.
