Hedgesville High School's Mumaw Stadium is getting a facelift this summer! This week, we broke ground on their brand-new artificial turf field!

Thanks to your generous support of the November 2022 Bond Call, this project will support much-needed upgrades to this facility used by our football and soccer teams, the band, and beyond!

Here are a few unique historical facts about Mumaw Stadium shared by Superintendent Stephens at the ceremony:

  • October 1979: The first football game was played here.

  • August 1985: The Eagles defeated Martinsburg High School in football for the first time.

  • September 1989: First soccer match

  • September 1991: First girl’s soccer match

  • November 1993: The stadium hosted its first WVSSAC football playoff game against the former Washington Irving High School from Clarksburg

  • October 1993: Largest crowd for a game/match against the Martinsburg football team with 6,000 spectators in attendance

  • September 1994: Stadium and field dedicated to Ed Mumaw

  • August 2004: Then-President George W. Bush stopped here for a campaign rally.

The new field is expected to be completed in August. Thanks for the great memories, Mumaw Field, and we can't wait to see your makeover!

With this project in motion, 70 percent of projects financed by the 2022 Bond Call are either mobilized or completed. THANK YOU for being so supportive, Berkeley County!
