To strengthen both our community and student academic achievement, Berkeley County Schools is committed to the involvement of the community and specifically the families of our students with their education. In addition, each school district that receives Title I, Part A funds must develop jointly with, and distribute to, parents of participating children a written family involvement policy that contains information required by section 1118(a)(2) of the Every Student Succeeds Act.

Title I: Parents' Right-to-Know

Title I schools must meet federal regulations related to teacher qualifications as defined in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). These regulations allow you to learn more about our teachers' training and credentials. At any time, you may ask:

  • Whether the teacher meets state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and subject they are teaching.

  • Whether the teacher received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications or licensing criteria were waived.

  • What undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher holds, including graduate certificates and additional degrees, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.

Title III

The purpose of Title III is to ensure that English learner (EL) students, including immigrant children and youth, attain English language proficiency and meet the same challenging state academic standards that other students are expected to meet.
