A Message From Dr. Saxe...

My mantra remains unchanged: from the boardroom to the classroom, we must stay focused on student learning and doing what is best for our students. Now entering my second year as Superintendent of Berkeley County Schools, I remain deeply committed to working collaboratively with our Board, students, families, educators, and staff to foster a strong and thriving educational community.

At the heart of our work is a shared commitment to academic achievement for all students. As stated in our Board-approved Literacy Commitment Statement:
Every student in Berkeley County Schools is expected to achieve at high levels, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that happens.

To support this commitment, we are strengthening instructional quality, aligning our practices with clear learning goals, and expanding professional development. We are also focused on creating environments where every learner has access to the tools, instruction, and encouragement they need to succeed, regardless of their background, learning style, or zip code.

Berkeley County Schools functions as a complex ecosystem of learning, where every person in the system plays a critical role. Whether in the classroom or on the bus, in the cafeteria or the main office, in a school hallway or at the district level, our shared efforts all contribute to student growth and success. Together, we are cultivating a culture where students thrive, educators feel supported, and families are welcomed as true partners.

We also recognize that providing high-quality education means investing in the spaces where learning happens. That is why we are committed to improving our facilities and infrastructure by addressing overcrowding, replacing aging portables, building new schools and classrooms, and expanding our capacity to meet future growth. At the same time, we are advancing workforce development to ensure we are preparing students not just for graduation, but for success in college, career, or military service.

Meeting the evolving needs of our students, families, and staff will take all of us working together. I am honored to lead Berkeley County Schools and excited about the future we are building together.

Yours in education,

Ryan S. Saxe
