Overview

Welcome to Berkeley County Schools and our West Virginia Pre-K Program. Since its inception in 2002, West Virginia has been a national pioneer in providing a state-wide Pre-K program.

Berkeley County Schools Universal Pre-K Program is a collaboration of Berkeley County Schools, EPIC Head Start, and participating childcare centers. All classrooms are inclusive with a maximum of 20 students. Most classrooms have one teacher and two teaching assistants; however, some have only one teacher and one teaching assistant, meaning they meet or exceed the required ratio of 1 adult to 10 children.

Classroom instruction focuses on the following five domains as described in the WV Pre-K Standards Ages 3-5: Social and Emotional Development, the Arts, Physical Health and Development, Language and Literacy, and Mathematics and Science. 

Classroom teachers use Creative Curriculum, the stated adopted Pre-K curriculum.

2025-2026 Enrollment

NOTE: If you do not upload the required documentation to the platform while registering, please email Jennifer Dieter at jdieter@k12.wv.us. You will NOT be able to go back into the platform once you submit your registration. Please include your child's name with all emails.

What's Next?

Pre-K placement is not based on the registration date.

All eligible students will be placed at a site based on the process listed below. The following process has been established by the Berkeley County Pre-K CORE Team and will be implemented for Pre-K site placement:

  • Completed Registration

  • Specialized Services

  • Home School District

  • Compliance Ratios

  • Before/After Care

  • Siblings

All students will be given a placement site.

Additional federal requirements may apply for Head Start sites.

Due to the large number of students, we cannot accept specific requests for placements. However, we can discuss any special circumstances you may encounter. Please call our office for further inquiry.
